What if Disaster is a Wake-Up Call?

Do you remember what were you doing a year back? I, myself, was waiting anxiously for my departure from Mumbai to London. All of us   were sitting at ease, looking forward to what was in store for us in the future. I feel like those days are now like some previous blurry life that I once lived. But I don't think any of us were expecting a killer virus to disrupt all our endeavours and plans.
Now, as I sit on my couch, planning my first venture in years into the blogosphere in this sad quarantined state that our world is in, I think, "What if this COVID-19 is just a wake up call?"
Industrialization of the world is said to have started in Britain in the mid 1780s. There have been so many amazing inventions, many of them that changed the world. But while chasing inventions, we seem to have gone into overkill. To the extent that we are at risk of destroying something we didn't even invent.

Anyway, anyone who studied science (or anyone who paid attention in science class, anyway) knows that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. And that's why the COVID situation and our reaction to it, makes me think about something that we have ignored for a long time. Nature.

I feel like COVID is some wake up call of some sort. No one knows when it will end and when it does, whether the world will go back to what it was. Maybe going out and eating would become a liability for people instead of a rather fun thing to do. Will people ever queue up to see movies in theatres again like they once did?  Would startups have to disintegrate and find themselves on the ash heap? no one knows. But if there is one thing that COVID has taught me, its that we cant go back to our old habits again. Our world situation isn't like The Simpsons, where an episode had no effect on the next one. Our actions have consequences. I think if we dont change quickly, Nature is going to come charging at us. She will first make herself heard loud and clear and then even wipe us off the face of the earth. And frankly, you couldn't blame her.

Remember,
We are tenants on the earth, not its owners.
